Japan Local Crime Map

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

"Japan Local Crime Map" (the "Site") is an information service for checking local crime reports in Japan on a map. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled on the Site.

Information we collect

You can browse the Site without creating an account. When you view pages, we may collect information sent by your browser (such as IP address and user agent) and usage data via cookies.

Information collected with crime reports

When you use the crime report form, we record the report content (category, date, location, description and optional contact) together with your IP address and user agent to deter and respond to false reports. This information is used for moderation, investigating abuse and responding to legally mandated disclosure requests, and for no other purpose.

Information collected for push notifications

When you enable crime alerts, we store the push subscription (delivery endpoint and encryption keys) together with the registered address, coordinates and alert radius. They are used only to deliver notifications and are deleted when you disable them.

Cookies and advertising

The Site uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service. Third-party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can disable personalized advertising via the links below.

Analytics

The Site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand and improve usage. Google Analytics collects traffic data using cookies; the data is collected anonymously and does not identify individuals. You can disable collection via your browser settings or Google's opt-out add-on.

Use of location data

The "current location" feature obtains your location from the browser and moves the map there. This location is used only on your device for map display and is never stored on or sent to our servers. You can revoke permission at any time in your device or browser settings.

Address search

For address search and locating addresses, the text you enter is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service to convert it into map coordinates. Submitted content is handled according to that service's policies.

Disclosure to third parties

We do not sell or provide collected information to third parties except as required by law (including inquiries from investigative authorities and sender-information disclosure orders). The advertising, map and geocoding services above handle information under their own privacy policies.

External links

The Site contains links to external sites, for example for map display. We are not responsible for information or services provided on linked sites.
